Additional Graphics Card/Display System Comments

For optimal performance, it is recommended to use a professional graphics card that is designed for CAD applications and supports OpenGL. For information about cards used in testing Solid Edge and results, refer to Siemens' Hardware & Software Certifications page. A 512MB graphic card or higher is recommended when working with large assemblies or complex parts.

When running Solid Edge or NX, if you experience an abnormally high abort rate, parts disappearing, or other graphic anomalies you may not be using the appropriate graphics driver. For more details, visit the certification site noted  above.  This site details all of the Siemens-certified graphics cards by brand and model, and also provides information on laptops and workstations by brand and model. 

It is very important to use a high quality, professional grade graphics sub-system to guarantee that all aspects of your CAD system will perform as expected.  Many known graphics errors and anomolies are caused by "gamer" type graphics cards that don't have all of the special feature support that today's CAD systems expect in order to perform all functions at the highest levels.

Under some circumstances graphics performance can be improved enough to make marginal graphics cards peform acceptably through tuning of the default graphics settings in Solid Edge.  By default the graphics are set to highest levels with most all of the "enhacements" turned on.  Settings can be found on the Tools | Options | View tab.  For additional help, please contact support@acuityinc.com, or visit our Service & Support page and scroll down the page for complete contact information.

NX Advanced Sheet Metal

The NX Advanced Sheet Metal tool-set provides the user with tools for designing complex parts that require material deformation, such as stretching, thinning, wrinkling etc. These tools include Advanced Flange, Unform, Reform, Metaform, and Bridge Bend.

  • The Advanced Flange tool allows the designer to apply a flange to a complex or curved surface.
  • The Unform tool can Unform complex, curved, and flanged surfaces, enabling the designer to apply 2D cutouts across complex bends and other features.
  • The Reform tool provides the ability to return an unformed surface to its original form.
  • The Metaform tool gives the designer the ability to Unform complex geometries such as non sheet metal parts into alternate shapes.
  • The Bridge Bend tool enables the user to join different sheet metal bodies with a bridge using different bridge types.

 

NX Weld Assistant

The NX Weld Assistant tool-set provides the designer with tools to model fusion welds, mechanical connections, and solid state connections. This includes tools for edge, groove, fillet, plug, spot, seam welds, beads, tape, dollops, and clinches. These tools provide the designer with information on the welds and connections to help with Finite Element analysis. NX weld Assistant also automatically creates appropriate 2D drafting documentation and annotation based upon the 3D weld feature.
(NX Weld Assistant does not provide tools for modeling brazing, bolting, or riveting.)

 

NX SNAP Author

NX SNAP Author provides the designer with an easy-to-use API (No programming skills required) that can be used to automate simple repetitive tasks in NX.

HD3D Visual Reporting

The HD3D Visual Reporting toolset provides designers with the ability to set up and edit visual reports that can be used to acquire specific product and process information derived from information inside NX or stored in Teamcenter. These reports can be generated at any time enabling immediate feedback for the designer. These reports can also be authored and distributed amongst team members allowing companies to generate libraries of standard reports.
*The HD3D Visual Reporting toolset is most capable when used with Teamcenter on a unified architecture with Teamcenter authors.

 

NX Human Modeling

NX Human Modeling utilizes technology provided by E-factory Jack, allowing designers to create feature models of human beings providing valuable information regarding how humans might interact with product designs.

 

NX Design Simulation

The NX Design Simulation tool-set provides designers with an integrated solution for capturing the structural behavior of solid components. This tool set includes a wide range of tools for linear statics, vibration, buckling, and thermal analysis; as well as a Stress Wizard which provides a guided procedure for obtaining stress from static loads, in addition to a Vibration Wizard for obtaining modal frequencies and shapes. NX Design Simulation also allows designers the versatility to easily share models between the NX Design Simulation and NX Advanced FEM and Simulation products.

 

NX Product Template Studio Author

The NX Product Template Studio Author provides designers with a codeless process (no programming necessary) for generating a user-defined user interface to any parametric NX model. This user interface allows parametric models to be intuitively described and packaged for later use. These templates can be used to help manage a complex assembly by breaking it into familiar modules.
