So many to choose from…Here is a screenshot of the Teamcenter Rich Client with all three search tools open, ready to perform an item ID search.
- Item ID
- Keyword Search
- Item Name
- Dataset Name
Selecting the last option (“Advanced”) in the drop-down list opens the Advanced Search tool instead.
If an Advanced Search query doesn’t exist to meet your needs, your Teamcenter administrator can build additional queries as needed. Also, your search criteria can be renamed and saved to your My Saved Searches list for later reuse.
Although you have to build these Simple Searches yourself, they can be very powerful.
USING THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB
So, which tool is best? That depends on the task at hand.
Quick Search is very quick if you’re simply looking for results based on a single ID, keyword or name search.
Advanced Search can be powerful when your Teamcenter administrator sets up a custom search that closely matches how you want to search.
Finally, Simple Search is great for building your own refined search. At various times I use each of them.
Hopefully now you can see when you can use each as well.
